NEW DELHI: The
Calcutta high court, while hearing a petition from
BJP leader Arjun Singh seeking to nullify an FIR against him in a
bombing case, issued a verbal directive on Wednesday instructing police to refrain from taking coercive measures against him until the next hearing on Thursday.
The former MP's legal counsel approached the court seeking protection from arrest and invalidation of the FIR.
Following the
Barrackpore Court's directive on Tuesday for an arrest warrant against Singh, the case pertains to bomb explosions near his residence in Bhatpara,
North 24 Parganas district during the previous week.
Justice
Sengupta scheduled Singh's petition hearing for Thursday, while verbally directing the police to withhold any forceful action against the former
BJP MP of Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency until then.
