No withdrawal of free 100 units of power to households in TN, clarifies Tangedco
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) on Friday clarified that there is no move to withdraw a scheme providing 100 units of free electricity to domestic consumers.
The clarification came in the wake of a social media post claiming that the free first 100 units would be withdrawn as some consumers misused the scheme and caused loss to Tangedco.
Tangedco stated that the post was fake. "Information circulating in social media is incorrect. For accurate updates, please visit our official website," Tangedco posted on X.
Tangedco officials said it is a policy decision which only the govt can make. “No such decision has been taken in the matter. The free power would continue as such," said officials.
Domestic consumers can consume the first 100 units of electricity free of cost, and the second 100 units of consumption are tariffed at 50% of the base price if the b-monthly consumption does not exceed 500 units. The loss is compensated by state govt by way of a subsidy to Tangedco.
