After months of filming spooky legends, dark forests, and a unique love story, Thama, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, is now in its final phase. The vampire comedy, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, started its last and most important filming schedule in Ooty on April 28.
Final schedule in Ooty begins
The current shooting schedule for Thama will continue until May 25. It will focus on important scenes, including the climax and a deeper look into the love story between the lead characters.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s backstory to be filmed
The crew is filming near Doddabetta Peak in the Nilgiri forests of Tamil Nadu. They are preparing to shoot the origin story of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s vampire character. He is expected to join the team in mid-May.
According to Mid-Day, starting April 28, Ayushmann and Rashmika had begun filming their portions in the forests of Ooty, and were currently shooting in and around Doddabetta Peak. In this schedule, the director was expected to film parts of the love story between the leads. After Nawazuddin was set to join the unit in the third week of May, the team would shoot the backstory of how his character became a vampire, along with the climax.
Thama tells the story of a historian, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, who explores the myth of vampires in Indian folklore. The plot moves between the present and the ancient city of Vijayanagar, where a tale of lost love connects both timelines.
Inspired by mythology
The title Thama is inspired by Ashwatthama, the immortal warrior from the Mahabharata, and the film blends folklore, mythology, and mystery.
Diwali 2025 release planned
As filming nears completion by the end of this month, only two songs are left to shoot. The film is expected to release during Diwali 2025.
