Datacentre infrastructure provider, RackBank, has announced that it will build a datacentre park in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, specifically for AI-related workloads. The new AI Datacentre Park, which will be the first of its kind in Chhattisgarh, was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai. In its first phase of development, RackBank will build an 80MW facility that houses 1,00,000 GPUs on 13.5 acres of land with an initial investment of INR 1,000 crore.
According to the company spokesperson, it will continue to invest up to INR 3,000 crore to build a larger capacity AI facility, across three additional phases. It will have flexible rack density options ranging from 80 kW to 200 kW per rack.
While the new AI Datacentre Park is expected to create job opportunities in Chhattisgarh, RackBank plans to employ 200 people over the span of 5 years, with potential to scale up to 500 people.
Speaking at the inauguration, Narendra Sen, Founder & CEO of RackBank, said, “RackBank strongly supports Shri Narendra Modi's IndiaAI Mission, which envisions empowering India to lead the global AI revolution and our new world class AI Datacentre Park at Raipur will help develop cutting-edge infrastructure and innovation to accelerate digital transformation and fuel nation building. The new facility will provide greater cost efficiencies to businesses by scaling and leveraging India’s GPU compute capacity to meet India’s AI needs.”
The RackBank AI Datacenter Park at Raipur is expected to unlock growth avenues in healthcare, education, agritech and more, across Chhattisgarh.
AI datacentres are known to be resource-intensive facilities, requiring significant amount of power and water to keep them operating at optimum levels. RackBank’s AI datacentre in Raipur will use direct-to-chip cooling along with its patented advanced liquid cooling technology called Varuna, which is a liquid immersion cooling system that helps optimize power consumption and enhances energy efficiency. According to the datacentre company, this system reduces cooling costs by up to 70% compared to traditional cooling methods.
The Chief of Minister of Chhattisgarh said, “The launch of RackBank’s cutting-edge AI Datacentre Park marks a major step in our journey towards a digital and knowledge-driven economy. Backed by our progressive industrial policy, this project will boost innovation, attract investments, create quality jobs, and strengthen our digital infrastructure.”
An additional 2.70 hectares has also been earmarked at the Chhattisgarh SEZ to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services. In October 2024, the company had inaugurated an 80MW AI datacentre in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
