The story begins with communal riots in Kerala, reflecting how religious sentiments are manipulated for political gain. Jathin Ramdas played by Tovino Thomas, the estranged son of PK Ramdas, emerges as a rogue leader who joins an extremist party led by Bajrangi Baba. His rise threatens Kerala's political stability. Mohanlal is reprising his role as Stephen Nedumpally.
'L2: Empuraan' also features Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, and Sachin Khedekar.
While the film opened to record-breaking advance bookings and strong initial collections, fans have shared some inconsistencies in pacing and storytelling. However, the film has also received praise for Mohanlal's commanding performance and Prithviraj's direction for delivering grand visuals and intense drama.
