NBA legend Magic Johnson has given his thoughts on the real reason behind the New York Knicks’ Game 5, 127-102, loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, May 14th at the TD Garden in Boston. The Celtics defended their home ground without Jayson Tatum, who was sidelined due to his ruptured right Achilles tendon late in the Knicks' 121-113 victory in Game 4.
Magic Johnson reflects on the New York Knicks’ Game 5 loss to the Boston Celtics
The New York Knicks are currently leading the series 3-2, but their recent Game 5 loss to the Boston Celtics has cast a shadow of doubt over many NBA analysts and fans. Recently, Johnson shared his analytical perspective on the reason behind the huge 25-point loss.
“The Boston Celtics blew out the NY Knicks last night with six players in double figures, Jaylen Brown with 26 points and 12 assists, Derrick White with 34 points, and Payton Pritchard with 17 points,” Johnson wrote on X.
“The NY Knicks lost the game because they didn’t have time to adjust to the new Celtics team without Jayson Tatum. The Celtics played faster, had more ball movement, and more drives and kicks for open 3s in last night's game,” he continued.
Continuing his explanation on another post, he wrote, “There are 6 players (3 from each team) who will decide who wins Game 6 of the Knicks vs. Celtics Series. The Knicks players, OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges and the Celtics players Derrick White, Jrue Holiday and Payton Pritchard must have big games; whichever 3 players from each team that have the most combined total points will win Game 6.”
Jalen Brunson scored 22 in the game with 6 assists and just 1 rebound. Despite his bloody face in the game, Josh Hart stood out in his game, delivering a team-high 24 points. He also contributed 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Karl-Anthony Towns added 19 while Miles McBride scored 11.
