Now that the heated Miami Grand Prix is over, with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri taking over the victory yet again, followed by McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ George Russell in the second and third spot, it was a tough time for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, having secured the fourth spot in the race. Max Verstappen opens up about his struggles during the race.

How Max Verstappen got dropped to P4 after starting from pole position

It was indeed a tough race for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen at the Miami Grand Prix, after he finished P4, after starting from pole position. Verstappen opened up about the race and called it “a bit of a struggle” because his Red Bull car wasn’t as fast as the McLarens.
In the beginning, Verstappen managed to lead as fast as he could, but later, Lando Norris challenged him and he went wide on the first lap, allowing Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli and Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri to get ahead of him.
After Piastri passed Antonelli, having caught up to Verstappen, he eventually was able to overtake Verstappen to take the lead, while Norris followed soon after, pushing Verstappen down to third place.
Later in the race, a Virtual Safety Car was also used, and Mercedes driver George Russell took advantage with a smart pit stop. Russell managed to come out ahead of Verstappen, moving into third. Verstappen tried to catch him in the final laps, but couldn’t get close enough and had to settle for P4.
Verstappen, post the race, admitted that McLaren was simply much faster on the day.

Red Bull’s ace Max Verstappen, as per Formula1.com claimed:
“I said yesterday that I would try to do my very best and I think we did that today, but unfortunately [we] just didn’t have the pace.”
Further, he said:

“We were overheating a lot on the tyres, so it was just quite a bit of a struggle out there, and then of course we got a bit unlucky with the VSC as well, but that’s racing as well.”
Verstappen added:
“It has already been their strength for a while, so sometimes on a track where the deg is a bit lower of course you might not see it as much, but on a track like this with thermal degradation it’s of course bigger.”
Max Verstappen said, as per BBC:
“Honestly it's not frustrating at all (to lose a podium). We are here to win and today we were miles off that, so it doesn't really matter if you are a P3 or P4. had nothing to lose, so I also just wanted to have a bit of fun out there."
