Lawyer shot dead in UP's Sambhal over old enmity

A 38-year-old lawyer, Satyapal Singh Rana, was shot dead in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, India, while returning home. Two assailants intercepted his scooter and fired multiple shots. Rana identified them before succumbing to his injuries. Police have launched an investigation, recovered evidence, and detained a suspect.

SAMBHAL: A lawyer, 38, was shot dead by two assailants near Kaneta village in the Bahjoi police station area on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 9:45 am as Satyapal Singh Rana was returning home on his scooter after buying milk.
Sambhal SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said, "The attackers intercepted Rana's scooter and fired multiple shots, critically injuring him. Locals alerted the police, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries en route."
The victim, a resident of Srinagar Kaneta village, lived with his family near the Sambhal bypass railway crossing and practised law at the Chandousi district court. In a video recorded moments before his death, Rana identified the two attackers, armed with pistols, and attributed the attack to an old enmity. Police recovered an empty cartridge from the scene and said that the assailants were captured on CCTV footage.
Special investigation teams have been formed, and one suspect is in custody for interrogation. "We are taking swift action to resolve the case," said SP Bishnoi.
