KOLHAPUR: After traveling 750 km for 13 hours, a team of Kolhapur police has arrived at Juna Rajwada police station with Nagpur based journalist Prashant Koratkar.
Koratkar has been booked in a case of causing enmity between communities, hurting sentiments by making derogatory remarks about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a purported audio conversation with historian Indrajit Sawant.
Koratkar was nabbed nearly a month after the case was registered against him. He was detained from Mancheria in Telangana on Monday.
Koratkar will now be formally arrested and produced before court. The Kolhapur police will seek police custody for taking his voice samples to match with the audio conversation.
Meanwhile, Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking at Mumbai after Koratkar was nabbed, said, "Kolhapur police efficiently gathered technical evidence and arrested Prashant Koratkar, and now the police will take further legal action. Under no circumstances will any insult to Maharashtra's revered deity, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, be tolerated, and the police have demonstrated this. Whatever action is applicable under the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) will now be taken against him."
Lawyer demand probe into accomplices
Asim Sarode, Sawant's lawyer, said that the police should find out who helped Koratkar in hiding from police. "There can be officials, relatives who might have helped him to evade the arrest. Deep investigation should be carried out to reveal Koratkar's accomplices," said Sarode.
