BHOPAL: A tigress, around 2 years old, was found dead in the Kanha Tiger Reserve in Mandla district on Tuesday.
The carcass was found under forest land compartment number 189, in the Mukki Forest Range, located in the Parsantola Beat. Following the incident, immediate action was taken by the authorities in accordance with guidelines issued by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Chief Wildlife Conservator, Madhya Pradesh.
The incident site was secured, and an investigation was initiated, assisted by a dog squad to gather further evidence. A team of expert wildlife doctors conducted the post-mortem examination, which included: Dr Sandeep Agarwal, K T Reserve Mandla; Dr P K Jyotishi, Retired Veterinary Doctor; Dr Rakesh Wareswa, Veterinary Doctor.
According to the authorities, all the body parts of the deceased tiger were found to be intact and in good condition, indicating no signs of poaching. After completing the examination, the tiger's remains were cremated in a ceremony attended by several officials and wildlife experts, including: Ravindra Mani Tripathi, Field Director; Ameeta K B, Deputy Director Core; Jamuna Prasad Bhagat, Naib Tehsildar, Baihar; Shakuntala Markam, Sarpanch, Bamhni Panchayat; Shravana Goswami, NTCA Representative; Chandresh Khare, Wildlife Conservator (Honorary); and Ajay Thakur, Assistant Director, Halon. Tripathi said that all procedures were carried out in compliance with legal and environmental regulations, and all actions were documented through photography and videography.
“It seems that the tigress was killed in a clash with another tiger. We are looking into it,” said the officer.
